Nassau captures the spirit of the Bahamas with a sense of ease and relaxation, but make no mistake—Nassau is bustling, active, and bursting with outdoor experiences. Go shopping at the Straw Market, a Nassau institution where local artisans hawk their handmade woven hats, purses, and other trinkets to take home with you.
Snorkel and scuba dive at Rainbow Reef, which is said to have some of the most beautiful coral structures in the Bahamas. It’s a quick 45-minute boat ride from Nassau.
Dolphins and sea lions are an everyday occurrence on Blue Lagoon Island, a private island near Nassau that’s known for its lush beaches, snorkeling, and a secluded lagoon perfect for swimming. All ages can enjoy the Atlantis Aquaventure, a local water park where slides, swimming pools, and rapids cool things down. There you can also explore Dolphin Cay, a habitat dedication to the rehabilitation and conservation of marine life.
You could spend an afternoon sampling local rum at the John Watling Rum Distillery. Bahamian rum is said to be some of the best in the world. After a tour and complimentary tastings, try some of Nassau’s best seafood, like fresh-caught fried snapper and conch drenched in lime juice.
Most of our itineraries to the Bahamas depart from South Florida, typically Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Soak up the Sunshine State before or after your cruise, stopping to explore the colorful murals of Miami’s Wynwood or shop along Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.
